We have partnered with the Salt Lake City Public Library to offer our Spiral Jetty backpack, available to check out for FREE at the Children's desk downtown. Enjoy a family outing to Spiral Jetty and learn about the history, art, and science around this amazing Land art work. New family backpacks are being designed to highlight the reimagined installation of the UMFA permanent galleries when we reopen in 2017.

Exhibition | The Way We Worked July 11–September 9 | Territorial Statehouse State Park | FREE The Way We Worked is a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution exploring how work became such a central element in American culture. Drawing on the rich collections of the National Archives, the exhibition traces the many changes affecting the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years.
A companion exhibition focused on labor in the Fillmore area will open simultaneously at Territorial Statehouse State Park and run through December 2018.
The UMFA has teamed up with Utah Humanities to bring The Way We Worked to six Utah communities. Curriculum and free programming connect the exhibition to the history and resources of each community. The exhibition is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Utah Humanities created by the National Archives with support from the United States Congress.

Family Art Making | Community Blocks Friday, July 28 | 1 pm | FREE Salt Lake City Public Library, Main Library Our neighborhood streets, houses, and businesses form a community. With inspiration from the buildings in your neighborhood, decorate three wooden blocks to create a sculpture of your own small community.
UMFA in the Wild | Sketch in the Wilderness Sunday, July 30 | 10 am | FREE Firefighters Campground Bear Canyon Trailhead in the Ashley National Forest Join the UMFA in Utah's amazing wilderness to experience art and nature. Learn about America's long tradition of sketching in nature and experiment with a variety of art media—charcoal, pencil, crayon, pastel, and conté—to create your own nature drawing in a sketchbook you can keep.

UMFA in the Wild | Make a Nature Rubbing Book Sunday, August 6 | 10 am | FREE Washington Lake Campground Crystal Lake Trailhead on the Mirror Lake Highway Join the UMFA in Utah's amazing wilderness to experience art and nature. Learn about the variety of textures in nature and how artists represent them in paintings and drawings. Make your own book to classify and record rubbings of the natural textures around you.
Third Saturdays for Families | Chinese Fans Saturday, August 19 | 1–4 pm | FREE Emma Eccles Jones Education Center Classroom Chinese decorative arts are noted for their intricate patterns. Study the beautiful designs of Chinese cloisonné, made with enamel and wire, and create your own design on paper fans.
